The ugly dimples of cellulite can form on any woman’s body. They form slowly and are quite resistant to dieting and exercise- even skinny marathon runners can be affected by cottage-cheese thighs. Commercial creams and spa treatments might help with cellulite, but they are pricey. Try some cheap, home remedies first.
1. Soak in seaweed
Seaweed baths are said to stimulate the body to remove toxins, which can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Buy seaweed flakes at any health food store. Place the flakes inside an old nylon stocking. Bring a pot of water to boil and steep the seaweed in the simmering water for 20 minutes. Pour the water into your bath. Get your favorite book and relax in the bath, secure in the knowledge that your cellulite will look better afterwards.
2. Scrub with coffee
Coffee is a diuretic, drawing water out of the body. Scrubbing the cellulite-prone areas may draw water out of the fat cells, reducing the appearance of cellulite. The massaging action will increase circulation to the area which will also help reduce the appearance of cellulite. And the scrubbed, exfoliated and moisturized skin will glow and look great. Collect your coffee grounds from your morning coffee. Mix some olive oil into the grounds to create a paste. Apply the paste to the affected body part and scrub gently for ten minutes. Rinse well.
3. Soothe with self-massage
Massage is well-known to reduce cellulite. Instead of paying a masseuse to perform the deed, try it yourself. Gently massage the affected area for 20 minutes each day.
4. Drink lemon pepper cocktails
Squeeze the juice of a whole lemon into 8 ounces of water. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of ground cayenne pepper, mix well and drink. Consume three times a day. This concoction not only detoxifies the body and encourages fat-burning but its potent antioxidants and the extra water intake help restore the skin to a more youthful, elastic appearance.
5. Apply essential oils
Measure out a half-cup of olive oil. Add ten drops of juniper oil (to increase circulation and activate slow-growing tissues), ten drops of essential orange oils (to reduce water retention and firm the skin) and ten drops of cinnamon leaf oils (to increase circulation and strengthen connective tissues). Mix the oils well. Apply the oil to the affected area and massage it slowly into the skin. This method will not give immediate results but after three to four weeks the appearance of cellulite will be much improved and the skin will be firmer and softer.
6. Invigorate with dry brushing
Dry brushing is an effective way to encourage the body to break down cellulite. It improves circulation to the area, detoxifies and helps restore the skin to a more youthful state. To dry brush, get a semi-firm brush and vigorously brush the affected areas in a sweeping motion towards the center of the body for 15 minutes before showering each day.
7. Have some jell-o
Gelatin is a natural, healthy source of the building blocks of connective tissue. Consuming gelatin will allow the body to re-build the connective tissue and restore the skin to a more youthful state, thus reducing the appearance of cellulite. As a bonus, this remedy can also help with aching joints by encouraging the body to re-build damaged cartilage. The easiest way to consume gelatin is to dissolve two packets of unflavored gelatin in hot water, wait for it to cool a little, and drink it down.
8. Indulge in a deep-tissue massage
Improve the efficacy of a self-massage by getting a deep-tissue foam roller. The roller will help improve circulation to the deeper tissues and may even release adhesions that have formed between the fascia and the underlying muscles.
9. Feast on salmon
Most modern diets are deficient in essential omega-3 fatty acids and supply too many omega-6 fatty acids. Try taking a fish oil supplement, or do it the natural way with delicious, healthy seafood. Also work on reducing the intake of omega-6 fatty acids by eating less vegetable oil from sources such as corn, soy, peanut and sunflower. After balancing their omega fatty acid intake many people notice an astonishing improvement in a wide variety of symptoms, everything from vanishing aches and pains to glowing skin to a reduced blood pressure. And of course a reduction in the appearance of cellulite.
10. Build some muscles
Aerobic exercise is good for the heart, but to reduce cellulite and other stubborn body fat stores try weight-lifting. Not the kind of “toning” so many women’s workouts suggest, but the kind of heavy lifting bodybuilders do. No, don’t worry about getting “bulky”, that simply doesn’t happen to women. Try a kettlebell workout, or get some barbells and do some compound lifting. Building some good, strong muscles will change the hormone balance in the body towards fat-burning and will encourage the body to remove that cellulite. As a bonus, heavy-lifting improves mood and burns off many more calories than aerobic exercises.
